Raita, this goes very well with almost all Indian rice times. In general, it is taken with rice during the completion of the meals. So that, it cools your stomach and suppresses the effects of masalas in the food. Raita, it is not only taken with rice dishes, but also some times taken with roti. You can make many variants out of this raita. Such as, mint raita, cucumber raita, etc. It is very easy to prepare. Now lets see how to make Onion Raita.

Ingredients for Preparing Onion Raita

  • Curd – 100gms
  • Onions – 1 finely chopped
  • Turmeric – 1/4 tea spoon
  • Salt – As per the taste

For Seasoning

  • Ghee – 1 tea spoon
  • Dry Red Chilli – 1 (Make into 3 pieces)
  • Urad Dal (White Lentils) – 1 table Spoon
  • Mustard – 1 pinch
  • Cumin Seeds – i pinch
  • Curry Leaves – 5 to 6

Method for Preparing Onion Raita

  1. Take a bowl and add curd to it. Add little water, turmeric powder, sliced onions, and salt to the curd and mix well.
  2. Keep this mixture aside.
  3. For Seasoning
    1. Take a small kadai.
    2. Add ghee to it and heat.
    3. Once the ghee get heated enough, add dry red chilli pieces, white lentils, mustard, cumin seeds and curry leaves to it.
    4. It starts popping.
  4. Add this seasoning to raita mixture and mix it.
  5. Your Onion raita ready to serve
